1. MIT AI & Machine Learning Robot - Cheetah 3

The robot utilizes a pair of new algorithms — contact detection and model-predictive control — which help it recover its balance in the case of slippage. The ability helps the robot determine whether to have a leg in the in air or on the ground at a given time, allowing it to tenuously but tenaciously ascend the stairs.

2. MIT PixelPlayer AI system

MIT’s PixelPlayer can isolate the sounds of instruments using AI
The fully trained PixelPlayer system, given a video as the input, splits the accompanying audio and identifies the source of sound, and then calculates the volume of each pixel in the image and “spatially localizes” it — i.e., identifies regions in the clip that generate similar sound waves.

At the core of PixelPlayer is a neural network trained on MUSIC (Multimodal Sources of Instrument Combinations), a dataset of 714 untrimmed, unlabeled videos from YouTube. (Five hundred videos — 60 hours’ worth — were used for training, and the rest were used for validation and testing.) During the training process, the researchers fed the algorithm clips of performers playing acoustic guitars, cellos, clarinets, flutes, and other instruments.
After the trained video analysis algorithm extracts visual features from the clips’ frames, a second neural network — an audio analysis network — splits the sound into components and extracts features from them. Finally, an audio synthesizer network uses the output from the two networks to associate specific pixels with sound waves.

PixelPlayer is entirely self-supervised, meaning that it doesn’t require humans to annotate the data, and it’s capable of identifying the sounds of more than 20 instruments.

3.Whatsapp Feature: WhatsApp Will Soon be able to Notify You About Potentially Unsafe Links

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new addition to the link preview feature which will inform users when they send or receive the link to any web page which the system determines to be malicious or phony. When such a link is shared through the app, users will receive a warning in red color suggesting that the link is “suspicious”.

Microsoft Surface Go tablet was launched in July 2018. https://youtu.be/rngRI2dVPVA The tablet comes with a 10.00-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1800 pixels by 1200 pixels. Starting at about $399 for the 64GB configuration and about $549 for the 128GB configuration, the Surface Go is more affordable than its Surface Pro sibling, which starts at about $799. Though it doesn't have a lot of the same stuff that makes the Pro such a beast — Intel Core processor (CPU) options, higher-res display, more storage, and more RAM — it's still a perfectly suitable device for those always on the move or for enterprise and education sectors. Those who want to get their hands on a Surface device can now do so for hundreds less than before The Surface Go should prove to be quite popular, offering up a portable design that holds onto a lot of the features that makes the Surface Pro such a hit. It works with the Surface Pen, it has its own Type Cover, and it's yo...

Microsoft DNA Data Storage | Breakthrough Research- what is it and how ...

Breakthrough Research from #Microsoft on DNA based storage invention that aims to replace warehouse sized  #DATACENTERS to small sized box #MicrosoftTeams #Microsoft Hello Friends Researchers from the University of Washington and Microsoft have demonstrated the first fully automated system to store and retrieve data in manufactured DNA — a key step in moving the technology out of the research lab and into commercial data centers. In a simple proof-of-concept test, the team successfully encoded the word “hello” in snippets of fabricated DNA and converted it back to digital data using a fully automated end-to-end system, which is described in a new paper published March 21 in Nature Scientific Reports. In its first run, the $10,000 prototype converted "HELLO" into DNA. The device first encoded the bits (1's and 0's) into DNA sequences (A's, C's, T's, G's). It then synthesized the DNA and stored it as a liquid. Next, the stored DNA was read by...
